Planter’s & The Eli
Three Experiences, One Destination
Each room of the JS Block Building has its own unique personality fit for visitors from every walk of life. Erected in 1893, the structure housed a bar for over-the-counter sales as well as a saloon in its heyday. After the close of the mail-order liquor business, the location was used as a general store, cafeteria, bookstore, and even a cotton exchange. This most recent chapter of the building’s history is unique in that it presents three co-existing stories in the form of Cotton, Planters Gastropub, and now The Eli.
Planter’s Gastropub
Planter’s Gastropub, located above Restaurant Cotton, offers a diverse menu ranging from pub-grub favorites like burgers, pizzas and hot wings to roasted oysters, as well as a wide selection of beer, bourbon, and handcrafted cocktails. While Planter’s Gastropub is a nod to the theme of Cotton on the first floor, the team envisioned the second floor space as more of a blue-collar, retro pub feel. Whether sporting heels or sneakers, guests are encouraged to walk in, walk up, and find a seat! Our balcony with a picturesque view of the Ouachita River is the perfect spot to kick your feet up with a flavorful pizza and an ice-cold beer or specialty cocktail after a hard day’s work.

The Eli
The Eli boasts a one-of-a-kind, carefully curated atmosphere, handcrafted cocktails and a sharable tapas-like menu with a view overlooking historic downtown Monroe. The Eli (as in Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin) is bathed in a glow of amber lighting, deep leather textures, and rich wooden accents. This retro-style bar will transform you to the Prohibition era with its speakyeasy vibes and a vast variety of specialty cocktails and spirits.
